Yesterday, I spoke at the Practicing Law Institute‘s continuing legal education program, “Basic Immigration Law 2015.” I spoke with Linda Kenespaske on a panel called “Inadmissibility and Removal Grounds and Procedures.” Among the topics that I spoke about were: (1) nuts and bolts of a removal proceeding; (2) bond, detention, and mandatory detention; and (3) post conviction relief. I like teaching basic immigration continuing education courses because I know that I’m helping new immigration lawyers to learn about practicing immigration law.
I Spoke at the NY Chapter of AILA’s Monthly Meeting
Yesterday, I spoke at the NY Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association’s monthly meeting. I was part of a panel called “Federal Court Updates.” I spoke about the nuts and bolts of litigating a petition for review. Among the speakers with me were: (1) Hon. Robert A. Katzmann, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; (2) Catherine O’Hagan Wolfe, Clerk of Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; (3) immigration attorney Paul O’Dwyer; and (4) immigration attorney Paul Grotas.
2015 NYU Immigration Law Competition
Yesterday, I was a judge at the 2015 NYU Immigration Law Competition. I always enjoy being a judge at NYU’s Annual Immigration Law Competition. NYU’s Immigration Law Competition is a moot court competition where law students argue a made up case about deportation, as if they were before the U.S. Court of Appeals. It’s fun being a judge. However, what I like most of all about the experience is being able to give the students feedback on their performance when they are done. I enjoy giving law students advice about how they can be a better immigration lawyer.
